Life lessons from Badminton

I’ve been an avid player for fourteen years, and I absolutely love this sport. Badminton is one of the major sources of happiness in my life. Because of the amount I have learned from it, I will explain them in more detail below: Apart from being high-speed aerobic exercise, badminton holds a deep meaning in my life. I’ve learned the lessons of discipline, adaptability, hard work, constantly trying to improve my game, fair play and sportsmanship, strategy and tactics, understanding the phycology of the opponent, living in the moment, and most importantly enjoying the sport. The first value of  discipline  was built because of the desire to mastering the sport. Before badminton I use only to play computer games, I was overweight and lazy. The reason I started playing was that all the pretty girls use to play badminton at my school and I wanted to be friends with them. But later on, badminton became more important than girls. Badminton became more important than computer games. It chan

I look at them and then I look at myself: Zooming out and in

It starts with a thought, a grand thought of being someone great. Then I look outside and see many great people doing great things, people more successful than me, people stronger than me, people in better relationships. Then I start to wonder what do I value? Why is it important to me? I look in.  As humans, we are constantly comparing our value in the social hierarchy, many people have illusory hierarchies, many people think this is a game of showing whos the biggest meanest person without being anything of substance. That is my fear, and that is what I hate the most. I want to be a person of value, a person who creates value from what he does. I hope my ideas, words and actions are valuable.  In a lot of ways we are in the best of times, there's a network of activities which support our lives. At the same time, there is a strange desire of sticking to what we know and following routines to avoid disasters. The fear of change is crippling, sometimes even for me. But the desire f

A broad analysis of mind and effects of psychedelics

This article, as the name suggests is my attempt to analyse the human mind and understand it's working, having a profound understanding about a skill or an art or a machine gives you dexterity in working with that field/ instrument. Having an understanding of the paragon of machines in the universe (My mind think itself to be the best damn machine in the universe) can give you some advantage in working with it. Also, I would give you anecdotes about my encounters with psychedelics, the effects of other substances and meditation on the mind.  In the summer of 2009, I read a book about mind, it was a non-fictional scientific book explaining the working of minds and how we can increase its productivity. As I was not a fervid reader of any kinds of books except comics, this was my first book on a serious topic. The intent of reading this book was to find ways for increasing my cognitive capacities and abilities, a pursuit which has engulfed me ever since. On that particular moment,

The Hero's Journey - My Masters plan

A story has five basic but important elements. These five components are: the characters, the setting, the plot, the conflict, and the resolution. These essential elements keep the story running smoothly and allow the action to develop in a logical way that the reader can follow. A hero's journey Call for adventure Sitting in the office/ school Mean boss - still, life goes on Refuse the offer - high resistance Supernatural AID - Friend in USA- Let's start a startup/ study for GRE - talks about doing GRE Parties life People suggest you have talent which will be wasted here, look at me I'm here for 5 years look at the manager - he worked here for 15 years, the package is 10 lakhs - suggested by office friend Threshold guardians - putting down papers Belly of the whale - either the best decision / or the worst. A (False) sense of freedom. Now what? empty life  - Happy that you're in control of your life / feels like an adult No structure in

The caterpillar analogy

Caterpillar has 4 different stages in his life, larva, caterpillar, cocoon and finally the butterfly. Humans has ? Simplifying processes - Getting the meta level understanding of life - having purpose makes life worth living - being valuable to others is the only way to survive - learn from history and innovate using your own style Simplify processes and increase efficiency by using better tools. Plan and execute- be a better problem solver, convert your visions to reality.

Estranged

This is a story of a girl. like many others on this blog. and I promise this is as interesting as the others. This incident changed me a little, my inclination and desire towards love and lust have changed. I'm a better person now, hopefully. I think I have learned something about myself from this experience. "Salle Shahrukh Nahi Emran Hashmi ban" It's strange how strangers become friends, friends become long-term friends, long-term friends become best friends, best friends become the best confidant, sometimes confidants become lovers, but many times lovers become strangers. Well, to tell you the story from the beginning, I would have to take you back to summer of 2008, 10 years back from the day I am writing this blog. I had just completed my 9th class and was going to 10th, I had a best friend, I had my crushes, I had my video games, life was perfect, well almost, in retrospect. So like every school child new years brought new opportunities. There was a s

My hot bathtub bath

The bathroom has always been my most favourite room in the house, when I was small I use to go inside the bathroom and sleep in the morning when I was woken up to get ready for school when I grew up, it became favourite for some other activity ;) Now that being said, it has also been favourite for one more reason, to be alone and think. I think it's the best place for thinking and add a hot water tub to it, the place becomes a holy shrine where you achieve enlightenment and successively nirvana.  Today was one of such day, I discovered why how water has a shadow, why one of the smartest person I know and the brilliant guy I've met hasn't been preparing for higher studies although thinking and talking about it for years.

My most successful trip with Rahul Mehta

Note: I had written this blog almost four years ago, but I want to share this with you on your28th birthday As I lay on my bed tormenting about my life failures worried about what I am doing in my life. For putting my train of thoughts in a better direction, I started thinking about what makes me happy, and the purpose of life. I started reminiscing of my best memories, and I remembered the most successful trip of my life. For mind you success is relative, what would be a success for one might not be a success for another. It's very much like chaos theory what might be chaos for a bug stuck in spider's nest might be dinner for the spider. Another more relatable example is, it is not an example, but rather a question, whom would you call more successful? From a third person's perspective, of course, a person who is about 24 living with his parent or a person of 24 working for one of the biggest multinational companies in the world? Like Google or Facebook. From a neutral thi
